TIPS FOR CHOOSING YOUR BRIDAL TIARA TO FIT YOUR FACE SHAPE, HAIRSTYLE AND GOWN! |
|
 |
Choosing a tiara according to your face shape
A tiara (and veil) should draw attention to your face by framing it, not draw attention away from it. The wrong shape tiara can make your face look too long and thin or too short and full. For round faces, make your face appear longer by choosing a tiara with some height or one that has a peak. For long faces, choose headbands or tiaras with little or no height that extend over your head from one side to the other at an even height. For oval faces, its best to avoid pieces with a peak at the top, which will make your face appear longer. Wearing a headband, forehead piece, or a back piece will make your face appear less oval. For full faces, create the illusion of a longer face by wear a tiara that peaks into a 'V' at the top. |

Choosing a tiara according to your hairstyle
For short hair, wear headbands or lighter more delicate tiaras that don’t require too much pinning. Tiara combs and crystal hairpins or a heavy tiara are less likely to stay in place. For up swept hair, a tall tiara will be required so that it doesn’t look lost. An elaborate headband would look best, but hair combs and pins could be an alternative, depending on the impact you want to give. If you are wearing your hair down, a headband is best to keep the hair off the face. Dark shades of hair and platinum blondes look best with white crystals and silver tones. Red and light brown hair tones look better with ivory pearls and gold tones. |

Choose a tiara according to your wedding dress
Details in your dress should be matched in your tiara. Use crystals with crystals, ivory pearls with ivory pearls etc. If you have floral details in your dress, look for a tiara with a flower design. As a general rule, if your dress is of a modern design, then it will look best with a modern tiara and accessories. A more traditional style dress suits more traditional tiaras and accessories. A plain straight modern dress suits tiaras with geometric patterns and/or straight lines. Silver tone, crystals and white pearls compliment a white dress. Gold tone and ivory pearls compliment ivory and off white dresses. Diamond white dresses (between white and off white) are a good match for gold or silver tones. If you have a v-necked dress you could choose a tiara that comes to a peak in the centre. If you have a rounded neckline you could choose a softer more rounded tiara. |

Tips on choosing a tiara
1. The best advice may seem the most obvious but is worth repeating: first choose your gown, and then choose your accessories to compliment it.
2. Having a good idea of a hairstyle will usually help in deciding on the hairpiece. Tiaras are versatile enough to work with different hairstyles. The tiara description will usually indicate this. Your hairdresser will love working with any of them!
3. The tiara should be matched to the proportions of your face (see above). The style and colour of your gown is secondary to your face shape.
4. Match the type of sparkle in your gown with the sparkle in your accessories. Use crystals with crystals, pearls with pearls, etc. If you have floral details in your gown, look for a headpiece with similar detailing.
5. The overall balance of your outfit should be such that no one piece overwhelms another. When you walk down the aisle, you don't want to look like a bride wearing a tiara, you want to look like a princess recently escaped from a fairytale to wed her prince charming. |

6. Ivory pearl-accented tiaras are a good compliment to ivory gowns, while silver-tone, rhinestone, and white pearl tiaras best compliment the tones of a white gown.
7. Platinum blonde hair looks spectacular with white, crystal, and silver accents as do darker shades of hair. Meanwhile, shades of red and lighter brown look well accented with ivory pearls.
8. Keep in mind that tiaras are not just for the bride; they are perfect for bridesmaids and flower girls as well. To give the wedding party a coordinated look, the attendants can compliment the bride's ensemble by wearing a smaller or simpler version of the bride's tiara.
9. If you have short hair you will want to decide on a lighter, more delicate tiara that won't require lots of pinning to hold it in place. Brides with shorter hair look best in headband styles or tiaras with a small shape. |
